Matt Godard -Owner Matt grew up in the Syracuse area his whole life.  He loves the city.  That is why he chose to stay here and pursue his passion for coffee.  Matt enjoys roasting coffee and making drinks in any of the cafe’s. When he is not at work he enjoys his down time at home with his wife and three kids. 	Becky Benedict -Downtown Café Manager Becky has lived in Syracuse all of her life and grew up around family that seemed to always be drinking coffee. However, it wasn’t until she joined the Cafe Kubal team in May 2011 that she learned to have a true appreciation and love for the beverage. Her favorite part about working at Cafe Kubal is the innumerable people she has met and worked with, as well as creating and serving all sorts of yummy beverages. She has a bachelors degree in Illustration from Syracuse University and hopes to be a children’s book writer/illustrator one day. Outside of managing the cafe, Becky likes to spend her free time chasing around her nephew, spending time with family and friends, and attempting to create things through writing, illustrating, and knitting. 	Jessica Brown - University Café Manager Jessica is a New York native who has worked in and managed, locally owned coffee shops around the state for the past 6 years. Besides being passionate about coffee and fascinated by coffee culture, she is a multi instrumentalist, composer and singer. She studied Music and Liberal Arts at Onondaga Community College and continues to perform in bands around New York State. 	Chris Deferio - Lead Barista Chris grew up in Syracuse, NY in the Valley. Got into coffee while in Bible college 12 years ago and has been in the industry ever since. Chris has worked in many different shops as a barista, trainer, manager. He has been involved in barista competitions for a good portion of his career being a finalist in several and winning several too. (4th place United states Barista Championship 2007, 3 time Coffee Fest Latte art Champion) Chris moved back to Syracuse in December to work with Matt at Cafe Kubal and it has been one of the best decisions he has made in his coffee career. With his  knowledge in coffee making, Chris is in charge of all Kubal’s barista training to ensure the quality of each drink that’s made in Cafe Kubal. Chris lives in Eastwood with his wife, Lynnsy (who designed the interior for University Café) and lots of counter crowding coffee equipment. His favorite coffee beverage is either a straight espresso or a Chemex brewed Kenyan. 	Christina Trout - Media Manager Christina was born and raised in Taipei, a city that has a cafe on almost every street corner. She studied Visual and Communication Design in college, and her introduction to the cafe world came in the form of movie screenings and art exhibits that were hosted in local cafes. She was fascinated by how a cafe environment can bring people together and foster communities. Christina relocated to Syracuse where she received her MFA in Video Art at SU. After school, Christina met with Cafe Kubal’s owner Matt who offered her a wonderful opportunity to learn about coffee making and the coffee industry. Christina is in charge of  Cafe Kubal’s print media, retail design, on-line presentation as well as social media marketing. Besides all her fun projects at Cafe Kubal, Christina designs wedding/party invitations and wedding sites on the side.
