Behind the Beans: The Story of Our Most Popular Roast

Behind the Beans: The Story of Our Most Popular Roast

Every coffee has a story. But some beans tell it better than others. At Café Kubal, one roast has captured more hearts (and mugs) than any other and today, we’re sharing what makes it so special.

Meet the Fan Favorite: Ethiopia Guji

This isn’t just our lightest roast, it’s a sensory journey. Grown high in the misty mountains of Ethiopia’s Guji region, these beans are known for their vibrant flavors and delicate complexity. Each sip brings out soft notes of blueberry, apricot, and silky florals, making it a go-to for coffee drinkers who crave brightness and clarity.

Where It Comes From

Our Ethiopia Guji beans are sourced from small, independent farms nestled in elevations over 6,000 feet. This altitude slows the growth of the coffee cherry, allowing more time for nuanced flavor development. The result? A light roast that’s naturally sweet, with fruit-forward acidity and a clean finish.

Why We Roast It Light

We believe in letting the origin speak for itself. By roasting Ethiopia Guji lightly, we preserve the bean’s natural character, not mask it. This approach highlights the terroir of Guji, where rich volcanic soil and perfect rainfall make for one of the most expressive coffees in the world.

Who It’s For

If you’re someone who drinks their coffee black and enjoys a cup that’s more refreshing than heavy, Ethiopia Guji is for you. It’s also a great introduction to light roasts if you’re used to bold and dark. Many of our customers say it’s the roast that changed how they think about coffee.

Why It Sells Out

From pour-over lovers to espresso explorers, Ethiopia Guji has become a fan favorite because it offers complexity without bitterness. It’s approachable, elegant, and versatile and it looks great on a shelf, too.
