What’s the Right Coffee Grind for Your Brew Style?

What’s the Right Coffee Grind for Your Brew Style?

If you’ve ever brewed a cup that was too bitter, too weak, or just... off, your grind size might be the culprit. Different brewing methods require different grind levels to bring out the best in your beans. Let’s break it down:

1. Extra Fine (Espresso or Moka Pot)

This powdery grind is key for pressure-based brewing. It allows water to extract deep flavor fast, perfect for our Kubal Espresso blend.

☑️ Brew methods: Espresso machine, Moka Pot
☑️ Flavor result: Bold, intense, concentrated

2. Medium-Fine (Pour Over, AeroPress)

A go-to for many manual brew lovers. It balances flavor clarity and strength, especially with our Guatemala Isabel or Ethiopia Guji roasts.

☑️ Brew methods: Hario V60, Kalita Wave, AeroPress
☑️ Flavor result: Clean, complex, aromatic

3. Medium (Drip Machines, Reusable Pods)

The most versatile grind. Great for anyone who uses a traditional coffee maker or wants an easy, everyday brew.

☑️ Brew methods: Drip brewers, single-serve pods
☑️ Flavor result: Smooth, balanced, dependable

4. Coarse (French Press, Cold Brew)

The chunkier grind keeps your coffee from over-extracting in slow-brew methods. Ideal for our Midnight Oil or Sumatra for dark roast lovers.

☑️ Brew methods: French press, cold brew
☑️ Flavor result: Full-bodied, less acidic, rounded

Why It Matters

Using the wrong grind can cause over-extraction (too bitter) or under-extraction (too weak). Your beans, especially when freshly roasted and shipped like ours, deserve the right treatment.
